Tell us all about you Darlene...

 

When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?

Oh, wow. I really think that I came out of the womb wanting to be a writer. Lol. I never got into sports and I sucked at dance classes!! LOL I just wanted to write and tell stories! 

 

How long does it take you to write a book?

That really depends. Book 2 in my series was written in just a little under two months, but book 3 took a lot longer! LOL! It just depends on what is going on around me. Life gets in the way sometimes.

 

What is your work schedule like when you're writing?

I work full time, so it is basically any chance that I get. Weekends mostly.

 

What would you say is your interesting writing quirk?

Hmm. That’s a tough one! LOL! Well, I will kind of talk to my characters sometimes!! LOL

 

How do your books get published?

I am self-published and I love it. Thankfully the community of indie authors has been amazing and I have learned so much from them.

 

Where do you get your information or ideas for your books?

Usually daydreaming on my drive home from work!! LOL I will hear a song or an idea will just pop into my head and it snowballs from there!

 

When did you write your first book and how old were you?

I started an actual novel (never finished it! LOL) When I was in 9th grade. I have oodles of unfinished books laying around!! LOL! I actually published my first book, A Vampire’s Saving Embrace in 2013.

 

What do you like to do when you're not writing? 

Drink coffee!! LOL

 

What does your family think of your writing?

They are so proud. They’ve known forever that I had an Author in me just trying to get out, so when I published my first book they were so excited for me. They knew that my dream had come true.

Meet Darlene Kuncytes!

She is from Ohio – born and raised. She went to North High School and Lakeland Community College. She fosters puppy mill survivors and has a wicked sense of humor. She is known for her giggle – snort at any given moment. She loves to sing in her car at the top of her lungs and isn’t afraid to car dance at stop lights. She loves meeting new people and she cries at the stupidest things. She is also very protective of the people she loves and trusts. Her mentor would be Stephen King – she loves the way he writes his characters and how they become real and talk and act like we do.

 

She has three books in her Supernatural Desires Series – Book 1 is “A Vampire’s Saving Embrace” – Book 2 “A Wolf’s Savage Embrace” and Book 3 - “Marcus’ Mortal Embrace”.

 

She just released a Contemporary/Suspense Romance that is not part of the series called I’ll Be Seeing You! It is a sexy as hell thriller!

 

She is also included in a Paranormal Christmas Anthology called “Mystical Xmas and another Royal Mystical love. Coming in June – Mystical Summer!!! What was one of the most surprising things you learned in creating your books? 

Wow. Great question. That people would want to read them, and actually want to read MORE!! LOL Seriously. I have always wanted to be an author, and when I published book 1, I thought, oh, friends and family will buy it and that will be it. I never imagined that I would get the amazing fan base that I have. That blows me away on a daily basis!

 

How many books have you written? Which is your favorite? 

I currently have 4, not including the 6 anthologies that I have been lucky enough to have been involved in. I am working on book 4 in my series and I have another Suspense/romance rattling around in my head. A favorite?!?! Oh, man! That’s like asking someone to pick a favorite child! That’s just mean! LOL But - I am going to say my first book, only because it gave me that amazing moment of realizing that I was a published author. That I had FINALLY achieved my lifelong dream.

 

Do you have any suggestions to help me become a better writer? If so, what are they?

Write from your heart. Let the characters speak to you and through you. I always say…write what you love and love what you write. Write as if you are writing only for yourself and LOVE it!

 

Do you hear from your readers much? What kinds of things do they say?

I do, and I can’t even begin to tell you how much I love hearing from them! They will contact me to tell me how much they love my books, or to ask me when the next one is coming out. The very first person to ever contact me was Lisa Angel Miller and she is now my editor! Crazy, huh? She sent me a message after book 1 in the series came out to tell me that she loved the book and was blown away by the love scenes!! LOL She loved that I made them hot, but didn’t use any of what she called her “hate words”  And, now…she is an amazing friend to me.

 

Do you like to create books for adults?

I do. I love it when someone contacts me and tells me that they needed a smoke after reading a chapter!! LOL  ;) 

 

What do you think makes a good story?

Characters that you absolutely fall in love with. Characters that you want to hang with and have a drink with. And a story that has you losing yourself into their world.

 

As a child, what did you want to do when you grew up?

An author! Seriously. I never wanted to be a princess or a ballerina! I have always wanted to be a writer! Well, there was a week there when I was 8 that I wanted to be a police officer and my neighbor and I rode around on our bikes giving cars tickets!! LOL
